UBRuined - With this robot, we want to draw in a lot more interest in robotics from Mechanical Engineers and expand the mechanical challenges they face here at UCLA in other project teams to a competition that requires extremely competitive design ideas and such durable and skillful engineering.

# Meeting Discussion: Proposed name: UBRuined. Use of small drill motors for the drivetrain (Cost and Weight), use of multiple small pancake-style motors for a weapon drive, with a total HP output of around 4-5 (redundancy and radial size), and use of 4-wheel drive, one set of wheels on the same shaft as the motors, and one set chain-driven.

# We have deviated a bit from our initial plan for the bot. For design simplicity, we decided to go with a Team Whyachi right-angle gearbox for our 3" MagMotor, rather than several small motors. The frame design was completed a few weeks ago, and Mike down at the machine shop did a slick, clean, and fast welding job for us. Thanks to his beautifully uniform welds, we probably won't have to worry about fasteners or weak joints, which doomed us last year. Also, we have finished the bearing blocks, and one of the two motor mounts. Each motor mount is machined from a 10lb block of aluminum, down to roughly 2lbs, to minimize use of extra fasterners and tolerancing issues encountered with larger numbers of parts. At this point, we need to order all of our third-party stuff (motors, gearboxes, electronics, batteries, etc). Once we have the shaft stock in we will be able to modify it to suit our needs, and begin assembling. We hope to have pics of the new bots up eventually!

# We've got 3 battlebots going. Our fighting fleet is coming together. DracUCLA's our 120 lber, UBRuined is our 60 lber, and we've got a new 30lber. We need to come up with an amazing name for our 30 lber (preferably one with UCLA or Bruin in it or even Boelter or EIV). Combots is probably going to be really fun, I can't wait!

# Kudos to Jon Dorner for the name: UBRuined!

# Hope everyone had a great Christmas / Hanukkah / Insert Generic Winter Holiday Here! We have some shaft stock and drawings made for the four shafts on the Bot. Things to do before shop hours commence on UBRuined: -Get our shell from Hermann Metal Spinning Company. It should be done by now. -Order the third party parts - motors etc. Once we have done this, shop hours will be for: -Lathing the shafts -Adding weld flanges on the gearbox for shockmounting purposes -Cutting more frame pieces (design has changed slightly)
- Deadline: June 19, 2007 (Done.)

microUAV - Sweet, no deadline!
